
Today – Feb. 3rd – marks the day the music died when in 1959 a plane carrying the 22 year old rock-n-roll legend Buddy Holly crashed, killing him and two other beloved rockers of the day: The Big Bopper and Richie Valens.
The trio had just performed the night before at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa to a full house as part of a Midwest Winter Dance Tour.
The event was later immortalized by singer Don McLean in the song “American Pie.”
